Bosch tablet press meets all challenges

Increasingly complex powder properties, as well as the ongoing pursuit of cost reductions, present the pharmaceutical industry with new challenges in tableting. At the seminar ‘Comparison of Rotary Tablet Presses’, a two-day hands-on expert event in July 2019, the Bosch TPR 500 tablet press achieved excellent test results in direct comparison with competitors.

Challenge successfully mastered

In addition to Bosch, four other well-known producers took part. The highlight of the seminar was the tableting of three critical placebo formulations under the eyes of an expert audience from the pharmaceutical industry: very poor flowability, a mixture that tends to over lubricate, and a formulation that easily tends to “cap the tablets”, i.e. parts of the tablet flake off.
The TPR 500 has proven its competitiveness and high flexibility in adapting to different formulations. Interesting was the feedback from the customers, who complimented the good accessibility for cleaning and format changing, and the robust design of the Bosch tablet presses in general.
The TPR 500 is part of a series that also includes presses for lower and higher outputs, as well as for laboratory purposes. Further advantages of the TPR series are low hydraulic forces in the feeder, MUPS (Multiple Unit Pellet System Product) capable design and modern machine control with state-of-the-art data acquisition and evaluation.

Preparing for the future – process understanding is key!

In order to be able to guarantee improved and constant tablet quality in the future, Bosch is going to launch the so-called APD tool (Automated Process Development) for its tablet presses as well in the near future. This is the answer to a fast and efficient approach to establishing a stable pharmaceutical process in tableting and to achieving Quality by Design (QbD) goals.
